Mr. Shreffler Receives Teacher of Excellence Award

Congratulations to Mr. Shreffler for being nominated for the Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers Excellence Award.

No Firearms Signs

Parents and students may notice a sign that is going up on school buildings across the state. If you see these signs when you enter one of our schools, please do not be alarmed as our district is keeping in compliance with the new law.

Beginning Jan. 5, firearm owners in Illinois could begin applying for a license to carry a concealed gun. The Firearm Concealed Carry Act identifies 25 areas where concealed firearms are prohibited, including schools.

The law requires schools to post a sign provided by the Illinois State Police that states the carrying of firearms into the building is prohibited.

School Report Card

The new and more user-friendly school report card has been unveiled. Please take time to read the informational letter from Dr. Alvey. Also, you may check out the school report card here.

Students have a real-time experience in science class from the data they receive from the wind turbine on the school's property. The Peoria Journal Star reported on how the information is going to be used in junior high and then reevaluated during high school.

Elmwood Increases Online Classes

Elmwood is one of many area schools that offer online classes to our students. The Peoria Journal Star had a great article on the topic.

Elmwood Makes AYP

Elmwood is one of the few schools in the area that met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). It is a great accomplishment to reach this goal with all three levels of schools achieving AYP districtwide. Please read the Peoria Journal Star article from November 11, 2012. We are proud of our teachers, parents, administration and school board for all of the support we receive.

Dangers in Using Smartphone Pictures

I know that many of you are well aware of the tracking capabilities on Smartphones, right down to finding a child’s bedroom, day care and favorite place to play in the park from one posted picture. This video really drives home the point of those potential dangers and it offers a quick and easy solution. To protect children, I think it is critical that we share this information with staff, students and parents. Please take some time to watch the video.
