Hello! I am honored to be assuming the role of superintendent of the Elmwood School District. My family and I look forward to being a part of such a wonderful community. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I am originally from Dubuque, Iowa. I moved to Cedar Falls and attended the University of Northern Iowa where I received a degree in Elementary Education. Once graduated, I decided that I wanted to try to live in a bigger city, so I jumped at the opportunity to take a job in a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. I taught 3rd grade for three years, and during this time, I attended Northwest Missouri State University and received my master’s degree in administration.
After living in Missouri for 3 years, I met my wife, Dara, at a wedding in Chillicothe, IL. Long story short, we married and moved to Owatonna, Minnesota, so that she could pursue her dream of working as a nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. I found a 5th grade teaching position in the suburbs of the Twin Cities. After a short year up north, we decided to move back towards family and friends and work on expanding our little family.
We chose to live in her hometown of Chillicothe, where her parents and grandmother lived. She became a nurse at OSF, and I got a job teaching 3rd grade. On our 1st wedding anniversary, we added a white shih-tzu named Willie to the family. Training a puppy, although difficult, primed us for the real-deal (or so we thought!), and we decided to have a baby. In July of 2003, we welcomed a son.
After 2 years of 3rd grade, and a year of teaching middle school 6th graders at IVC, I was fortunate enough to receive a position as Elementary and Junior High Principal at R.O.W.V.A. During this time, we were greeted with our second child in July of 2006, a daughter.
After 2 years at R.O.W.V.A., I took a job as Junior High Principal at Oak Grove. I held this position for three years, and earned my Superintendent’s endorsement from ISU during that time. In 2010, I was given the responsibility of leading the district.
Once again, I am excited about having the opportunity to not only become superintendent of an extraordinary district, but to also become a member of a fantastic community. I am thrilled about having my kids attend such an amazing district, with fantastic teachers and staff. I know that things will not always be easy, and there will be new things to learn and challenges to face, but with a positive attitude, an energetic approach, and a commitment to do the best job I can possibly do, I am confidant that the 2014-15 school year will be a terrific success.
